WINE
REGIONS: The Gold Country
AMADOR COUNTY
Amador County, heart of the Sierra
Foothills' wine growing region has become world
renown for its
magnificent Zinfandels. Though a combination of old vines and hot
weather, Amador County produces a huge variety of Zinfandel
styles, from light and fruity to massively meaty and peppered.
With over 2200 acres planted, 1600 are Zinfandel. Many of these
wineries have expanded plantings and production into other
varietals, some rivaling those from more traditional
regions.

DORADO COUNTY
El Dorado County, the
Eastern California home of Lake Tahoe shares a similar wine
heritage to Amador County. Housing a spate of small to
moderate-sized boutique wineries, the 600 acres currently planted specialize
in Zinfandel and Sauvignon Blanc. These wineries, though small,
consistently create outstanding, award winning wines.
